"Timber!"

I have put away my winter jacket and boot as spring is here. But winter doesnt seems like wanna give up yet. Last Thursday we had snowstorm again blanketed parts of southern Ontario! As a result...

Storm damage.

The tree split into half and fell into our backyard, and the other side fell into the neighbor's  So the first thing in the morning on Friday, this is what we saw! Can imagine the look on my face~

Fortunately the roof doesn't fall apart too. So rather than having to wait for Monday for the town council to take action, we had friend who cut and removed them yesterday. No serious damage caused by the falling tree. Phew~

Missing local food

Family & friends asked me if I'm missing local food. Fortunately.. not really. As mentioned on previous post, halal food are easy to find here. Aside from home cook meals, we have on going gatherings and potlucks with overflowing food. Just name it. Mee siam, mee goreng, prata, ayam masak merah, rendang, briyani, kueh2 and more! Learnt to make Putri salad from kak Ros too. :D Also, almost every Friday I gather with the rest of the Sporean, Malaysian & Indonesian at the mosque for Friday Halaqah by Dr. Hamid Silmi, Imam of Sayeda Khadija Centre. We had variety of food afterwards prepared by most of us in rotation.

My 2013 hijrah story..

I may b a wee bit late updating on my new year. Yep, new year, new beginning. It was gloomy for a start, since I hv nvr like winter. True.. It is making me home sick more & more. But I tried making my days wonderful everyday. Making new friends. Venturing new places. Trying new food. :D

I thot it would be difficult to find halal food here. I was wrong. It's everywhere, especially in Mississagua! Where u can find more than 20 mosques around. (As told by the residence here, for I hv yet to explore, which I'm in Brampton now, an hr drive btw)

I had "mee goreng mamak" when I 1st arrived! I think it was from Salt & Pepper if i am not mistaken. Infact, Popeyes are halal. Nandos too!

It's my 3rd week here now. And I had been to 2 gatherings in Brampton. Met fellow Singaporean and Malaysian that had settled down in Canada.

My former English teacher back in Singapore, sir Taib & family. It was an avalanche when I 1st arrived.

Snows melting & we had a sunny weekends. So it was a great time to go out.

I took the bus rides around the area. I got lost at times, but not being panicky, I took any buses that goes to any places that might sounds familiar to me and ended up at some good places to shop or dine or just being curious and excited over everything.

The good thing bout the fare is, we pay $3.25 or buy the bus tkt/token on the bus itself or via counter at the terminal, or by PRESTO card, thats their "ezlink" term, and the fare will expire by 2hrs. So within that 2hrs, u can alight and board and alight and board over and over again on any other buses without having to pay again, up to 2hrs that is. So aft 2hrs, u will then need to pay a new fare, if u are required to take the next bus to ur next destination. Well, it may not sounds as good if u are only traveling a stop away coz $3.25 is expensive.
So grab a Presto card, U'll pay lesser.

Annnniway.. I had to make sure that I'll be home before it gets dark at 4:30pm.
